Santa Cruz is the principal hub of the Galápagos and one of the most flexible bases for a land-based journey. It combines Puerto Ayora and its visitor services with giant tortoise country, humid highlands, beaches, volcanic formations and access to several uninhabited islands by day cruise.

Baltra airport lies just to the north, making Santa Cruz a natural starting or finishing point for many journeys. Puerto Ayora has the islands’ widest choice of accommodation, restaurants and services, but Santa Cruz is far more than a transport hub. Its range of habitats allows visitors to experience very different aspects of Galápagos within a relatively small area.

Day cruises from Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz also offers the broadest selection of day cruises from any inhabited island. Destinations can include North Seymour, Bartolomé, South Plaza and Santa Fe. These are not visitor sites on Santa Cruz itself, so they are presented separately as excursions from the island.

How long should you stay?
