More time on varied Santa Cruz, followed by a focused Isabela stay for volcanic landscapes, marine life and the quieter atmosphere of Puerto Villamil.

8 days — Santa Cruz and San Cristóbal

A combination particularly suited to travellers interested in sea lions, snorkelling and marine wildlife, with a speedboat transfer between the island bases.

11 days — Santa Cruz, Isabela and San Cristóbal

How these itineraries can be adapted

• Day-cruise selection: Exact destinations depend on operating days, availability, interests and budget.
• Specialist excursions: Española and Punta Pitt can be exceptionally rewarding for travellers seeking particular wildlife, but they involve long, exposed boat journeys that can be rough and uncomfortable, especially during the cooler season.
• Sea conditions and booking: Conditions cannot be predicted reliably when booking well in advance. Reserving early provides a better chance of securing a place, while waiting may provide a clearer idea of the likely conditions but carries the risk that the excursion will be full or may not operate.
• Independent and guided visits: Some places can be explored independently, while others require a guide or an authorised boat.
• Inter-island travel: Speedboat schedules can affect the order and practical timing of activities.
• Pace and budget: Additional day cruises can replace less expensive local activities, while extra nights can create a slower itinerary.
