South Plaza Day Cruise
Tour description
The tour leaves Puerto Ayora at 8am and arrives back around 4pm. The navigation from the north of Santa Cruz is short, taking about 1 hour to sail to the east of Santa Cruz Island, where the islet of South Plaza is situated. Lunch is included on board.
This island boasts the most concentrated population of land iguanas. Along with the interesting and concentrated sealion colony and beautiful cactus forest, it makes for a favorite visit for many. Cactus finches abound as well as seabirds nesting along and in the cliffs of the far side f the island. Walking along the cliffs, one can often spot shoals of fish and sometimes even bigger creatures. The ground cover is made up of a reddish sesuvium giving the island an autumn-colour feel to it.
The snorkel takes place along the cliffs of Santa Cruz and will usually reward you with sharks.
