Concha de Perla
Concha de Perla is a sheltered coastal lagoon beside the passenger dock at Puerto Villamil. It offers one of Isabela’s easiest opportunities for independent snorkelling without joining an organised excursion.
Reaching the lagoon
A short boardwalk through the mangroves leads from the road near the dock to a wooden platform beside the water. The site is free to visit and does not normally require a guide.
Its convenient location makes it easy to include on an arrival or departure day, or during free time between organised excursions.
Snorkelling and wildlife
Sea lions, green sea turtles, rays, sharks and numerous fish may enter the lagoon. Penguins are occasional visitors, while marine iguanas may be seen swimming and feeding underwater.
Water clarity and currents vary with the tide and conditions.
Practical considerations
Visitors should be comfortable entering and leaving the water independently. There is no lifeguard, and the platform and steps may be slippery.
The platform has limited space and can become extremely crowded, particularly during afternoons, weekends and holiday periods. Visiting early generally provides a quieter and more enjoyable experience.
Conditions should always be assessed before entering the water. Visitors should avoid using the access steps when sea lions or other animals are occupying them.
