Western Isabela and Fernandina

The remote western side of Isabela and neighbouring Fernandina contain some of the Galápagos’ most dramatic volcanic scenery and productive marine environments.

A different part of the archipelago

Sites such as Tagus Cove and Punta Vicente Roca reveal the scale of Isabela’s volcanoes and the influence of the cool, nutrient-rich waters of the west. Fernandina adds an even younger and more active volcanic landscape.

How these sites are visited

These areas are not ordinary day excursions from Puerto Villamil. They are normally included in longer navigable cruise itineraries, with the precise landing and marine sites determined by the vessel’s authorised route.

Who should consider them?

Western itineraries can be especially rewarding for visitors interested in geology, marine life, seabirds and the contrast between the older inhabited areas and some of the youngest landscapes in the islands.
